GAZES THAT STAY

EXTRACT

” He is naked. His slender body is covered with ashes and dressed in long braids. His gaze inspires benevolence. I see in it an animal instinct and an abysmal depth. His gaze is direct, lively like that of a wolf facing a bear. He scrutinizes me, pierces my eyes, tries to read my intentions there, to measure the danger and the potential that our exchange can take.

Open and alert, gentle and fierce, vigilant and friendly, primitive and wise, penetrating, serene. He does not wear a mask, does not project a smoke screen, his gaze pierces as well as it opens a direct and clear path to his soul. Thus he shows his confidence and his accessibility at the same time that he remains present and invulnerable.  “

(…)” For a moment I feel like a child observing the world and its phenomena for the first time. A young child does not reify objects in the world, he does not categorize or codify phenomena. He perceives the world differently from the adult and marvels at everything indifferently.

Before being conditioned, the young child perceives a saint or a monster with the same curiosity. He does not yet have a notion of good, bad and his individual identity. he is open.

Did I not build through my individual identity, barriers, my exclusion from the world as it is, my disconnection from unity and the nature of things?

Do I still want to spend my life describing, limiting the existence of a human and keeping him at a distance, giving him a sum of physical, psychological, religious, economic descriptions, judging him rather than seeing him ?
